Description & Specifications
This hairpin is crafted in the Urnes style, one of the last great expressions of Old Norse art. Its slender, winding lines and interlaced dragon motif capture the elegance of 11th–12th century ornament found on wood carvings and runestones.
Dragons in Norse and wider Germanic tradition were never simple monsters. They could embody chaos, greed, and death — enemies for heroes like Sigurðr to overcome — yet they were also powerful emblems in their own right. The Anguls, before they took the cross, bore the White Wyrm on their war-banner, a reminder that these beasts were not only foes but also tokens of strength and protection.
Wearing this piece recalls that duality: the dragon as both adversary and guardian, woven into the beauty of Norse design.

Name Meaning: The Old English word drōs is the ancestor of modern dross, meaning dregs, scum, or worthless matter. It stems from Proto-Germanic drōhsnǭ (“sediment, yeast”), which in turn derives from the Proto-Indo-European root dʰrag- (“sediment, dregs”). In metalworking, drós referred to the scum or refuse that floated on molten metal, a fitting counterpart to the dragon (wyrm), who emerges from decay, waste, and hidden depths. The name Wyrmdrós therefore suggests a dragon rising out of the dross — a beast born of the forgotten and discarded.
